Getting Visual

Welcome to Let’s Get Visual Visual, the blog for Visual Rhetoric and Multimodal Composition, a graduate seminar with 10 outstanding students taught by Bill Wolff at Rowan University for their Masters in Writing program.

The name of the blog came when someone in class blurted it out while we were brainstorming names. After that we had to watch Olivia Newton-John’s Physical, and now you do, too:

Um. 1981, how I don’t miss you at all.

Update: But, I guess my taste isn’t that same as the Grammy voters as it won Video of the Year. But, it was also “the first video to air on Beavis and Butt-Head, on which they [thankfully] changed the channel to ‘I Wanna Be Sedated’ by The Ramones.”

Looking through the Wikipedia page for 1981, we see that four months before the release of Physical this news was reported:

June 5 – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that 5 homosexual men in Los Angeles, California have a rare form of pneumonia seen only in patients with weakened immune systems (the first recognized cases of AIDS).
